Meeting

March 3, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 8:40.

Absent:   Scott Kostecka

  1. Winter Sports:

A/B             Basketball - Coaches were pleased to have banners and patches available for distribution at the All-League meeting.

C             Wrestling - The League Tournament produced League Champions from several of the schools.

  1. Spring Sports
    1. Badminton - no report
    2. Baseball - Davis High is considering charging for home games.   The fee will be $5 for adults and $3 for students per League by-laws.   David will contact all ADs if Davis decides to charge admission.
    3. Boys golf - no report.
    4. Girls soccer - no report.
    5. Softball - David asked for clarification of need of a coach as the League Rep and date and place of the All-League meeting.
    6. Swimming / Diving
      1. David asked if it was possible to change the start time for League swimming finals May 1 st from 9 am to 1 pm.   The reason for the change was to accommodate students taking S.A.T. test on that Saturday.   After discussion it was decided to leave the time as scheduled.
      2. All Vintage home meets will be at Napa High pool and there will be NO diving.
      3. Again, Davis High home meets are at Arroyo Pool.   Diving will be after ALL swimming events.
    7. Boys Tennis - The coaches are still very interested in changing the League format to 6-3 from 4-3.
    8. Track
      1. Scoring of meets
        1. •  4-ways             10-8-6-4-2-1             Relays 5-3-1
        2. •  Dual             5-3-1             Relays 5-0
      2. League champion will be determined using results from 4-ways, duals and League meet.   School scores 1 point for each school they beat in duals, 4-ways and the League meet.
      3. Recommend that visiting coach contact home coach the day of the meet to verify the facility is in useable condition.
      4. Coaches meeting will be May 10 th , 5:30 pm Room 55, Vacaville High School.
      5. MEL League meet will be held in conjunction with SCAC at Corbus Field.   May 12 trials Start 2 pm and May 13 Finals start at 3:00pm
      6. All coaches need to email meet results to Mike Papadopolos at Vacaville High.
  2. Fall Sports
    1. Water Polo - Vintage requests that player movement between JV and Varsity and regulations regarding forfeits be discussed with coaches prior to next season.
    2. Cross Country

    • i. 2004-2005 schedules will be based on this year's format.

    • ii. All 6 schools will have a League meet on the Napa course so that all participants have experienced the course.

    • iii. League meet will be October 29 th hosted by Napa.

  3. Schedules
    1. Fred Jones brought League football and wrestling schedules for next year.
    2. David Blackwell had previously given the ADs a copy of the proposed water polo schedule.
    3. Bill Ewing motioned to accept the football, water polo, and wrestling schedules as presented.   Second by David Blackwell.   Vote unanimous.
    4. ADs are reminded to bring proposed schedules for the sports they are in charge of for the 2004-2005 school year.
  4. Other
    1. AAU- There was a lengthy discussion on the impact of AAU groups on high school sports.
    2. Soccer will start at 3:00 pm for all League games before April 4 th .   After April 4 th , game time will be 3:30.
    3. David explained how Davis High handles transportation.
    4. Jay commented that Armijo experienced a loss of gate receipts this year and he thought it might be related to the day of the week games are scheduled.
    5. Next Athletic council meeting is Wednesday, April 7 th .
    6. Next Board of Managers meeting will be Tuesday April 20 th , 8:30 at the Armijo library.
